The First Police District in Chicago reported in June 2022 that crime had increased 111% overall from the previous year. This included a 136% increase in motor vehicle theft, a 155% increase in theft and an 82% increase in robbery. Shootings were up 33% in the district and homicides were up 167%, according to Chicago Police Department data.
